A bored piggy is an uninteresting piggy

Guinea pigs are curious animals. Their ancestors living in nature are exposed to many dangers and face various challenges on a daily basis. A guinea pig locked in even a large cage, alone with a waterer, is simply bored and sleeps all day. To make it feel better, we should provide it with a bit of entertainment.

The basics are taking your guinea pig for a walk around the house. First, prepare the room so that it can run freely and nothing threatens it. Hide all the cables from the floor and plants that could be gnawed (some may be poisonous to your pet). Close all the doors and block access to dark corners where you can hide but it is harder to get out. You can put an old carpet or rug on the floor so that the animals do not slip. Also, let everyone currently in the house know that the guinea pig is on the floor. This will prevent unpleasant accidents.

After preparing the floor and the household members in this way, we can diversify the pigs' run by organizing a playground at a low cost. Guinea pigs love mazes and tunnels. We can prepare such in a very simple way. Let's place different sized cardboard boxes quite close to each other, on a large surface, so that the pigs can pass between them. These curious animals, especially if they are released in a group, will immediately start exploring the tunnels and mazes, running and having great fun! For variety, we can cover some of the boxes with a blanket and put some tasty morsels inside some. However, let's be careful that the pigs do not bite the boxes covered with printing ink, others will not harm them in a minimal amount.

It would be best if the animals had an open door to their cage and could come back from the run to pee or if they got scared. The animals will have a great time outside, but maybe not right away. Give them some time to get used to the new big area and to explore it. The guinea pigs will definitely thank you.
